Regional East Lyme Shelter to Open Sunday at 4 p.m.

East Lyme Middle School will be used as a shelter for East Lyme, New London, Waterford, Old Lyme, Lyme and Montville residents and their pets.

Officials have announced that the regional shelter at East Lyme Middle School will open at 4 p.m. on Sunday in preparation for Hurricane Sandy.

The shelter will serve East Lyme, New London, Waterford, Old Lyme, Lyme and Montville. Officials strongly encouraged the elderly, the disabled and people who live in flood areas to use the shelter.

The shelter will have food, water and cots, and there is a generator at the shelter. The region is expected to begin to feel the effects of the storm Sunday night and the rain could continue until Wednesday.

Pets are allowed at the shelter. East Lyme Middle School is located at 31 Society Road in Niantic.
