Bill Requires Parental Consent for Teen Tanning Customers

Salons would face a $100 fine if they don't comply.

Connecticut is considering that several business owners are already complaining about.

According to the Connecticut Post, legislators will review a proposal that would require residents under the age of 18 to obtain parental consent before going to tanning salons. If passed, salons will be fined up to $100 if they don't comply.

Shannon Whipple, co-owner of SunDazzle Tanning in Norwalk, told the Post that she doesn't support a bill that tells parents how to raise their children, while Thomas Petitti, manager of Sunsations Tanning in Westport, questioned how the government would even enforce the law.

Barbers and hair salon owners in Connecticut—some of which operate tanning beds— of Gov. Malloy's proposal to impose a sales tax on haircuts. Some compared the propoasl, which didn't pass, to the negative impact the federal government's tax on tanning had on their businesses.
