Wrong-Way Driver Dies In Head-On Collision on The Gold Star Bridge

The fatal accident closed 1-95 for several hours early Saturday morning in New London.

A two-car accident early Saturday morning on the Gold Star Bridge resulted in the first fatality of the Labor Day weekend. State Police say the accident was the result of a vehicle driving the wrong way on the highway. 

According to state police, Franciso Lobos, 26, was driving a Saturn, registered in New York, southbound in a northbound lane of I-95 in New London when his vehicle collided with a GMC Sierra, driven by Derrick Brawn, 24, of Maine. 

Police responded to the accident at about 4:15 a.m. Emergency responders pronounced Lobos dead on the scene. Police say Brawn refused medical treatment at the time of the accident.

The highway was closed for several hours so police could conduct their investigation. Police are asking anyone with information about the accident to please call State Police Troop E at 860-848-6500.
