Waterford Hit With 'Smash and Grab' Thefts

While police are investigating, they provide some tips to help residents from becoming victims of this type of crime.

Waterford Police are encouraging all residents to take extra precaution to protect valuables in their vehicles as the town has been hit with a rash of "smash and grab" larcenies.

"Waterford had several smash and grabs from locked motor vehicles today," the department wrote Sunday on its Facebook page. "Windows were smashed!"

Police didn't specify the specific streets hit in its initial post, but added more information in a comment later:

"In the last few days we have had incidents on Clark Lane and down by the beach areas. We have experienced these types of crimes in the past and they typically do not stay in just one area of town. They start in one area and can move all around town and into surrounding communities."

"We encourage everyone, no matter where in Waterford, to secure valuables and not to leave them in plain [sight] inside your cars."

Those valuable include items like purses, cash and GPS devices. Police also reminded those who may have had credit and debit cards stolen to contact their financial institutions right away.

Anyone with information about these incidents is encouraged to contact Waterford Police by calling 860-442-9451 or messaging them on Facebook.
