This Dog Needs Your Help

Abandoned By His Owners, He Awaits A Forever Home

Every day, when he would attend New England Tractor Trailer School, a Waterford resident would see a male pitbull wandering around the streets of Bridgeport. Right before Thanksgiving, the resident finally felt bad enough, and decided to take the dog to his parent's home.

There, the problems began. One parent liked the dog, the other didn't, the cat hated it, and arguments ensued. The fighting became too much, and the family forfeited the dog to the Waterford Animal Shelter.

Now, the male pitbull sits in his cage, waiting for a new home. The original owner, if there ever was one, have until Dec. 10 to claim the animal. That remains unlikely, however, considering the dog has been gone since Nov. 24, and nobody has said anything yet.

The dog has been neutered, and is fairly young, Waterford Animal Control Officer Robert Yuchniuk said. The dog is active and undisciplined, although can be trained by the right owner, Yuchniuk said.

"He is not the worst pitbull I have ever seen," he said. "He just needs a strong owner who is familiar with the breed."

Anybody interested in adopting the dog can go down to the animal shelter and put his or her name on a list. If nobody claims the dog by Dec. 10, which is expected, the dog will be given to whoever's name is on the top of the list.

This dog has likely been abandoned twice already in its young life. Are you really going to let him just sit in puppy jail?
