State Police Still Trying to Crack 2006 Homicide

Connecticut State Police are not giving up until they find out who murdered Anthony Hamlin in 2006.

State Police will be joined Wednesday by members of the FBI, New London Cold Case Task Force and members of the Ledyard Resident Trooper’s Office in a search of a field where Hamlin's body was found.

Beginning at 10 a.m., authorities will once again search the field at 448 Shewville Road in Ledyard.

In announcing the search, Connecticut State Police Lt. J. Paul Vance says the case is "very active." He also reminds residents that there is a $50,000 reward for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of parties involved.

Background

On Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006, at approximately 8:20 a.m., State Police at Troop E and officers from the Ledyard Resident Trooper's Office responded to a 911 call from a motorist reporting that there was a body in the field next to 448 Shewville Road in the town of Ledyard, Conn. 

Police said responding troopers and officers located the body of a black male, later identified as Hamlin, face down in the field. The scene was secured and the State Police Eastern District Major Crime Squad (EDMCS) responded to conduct the criminal investigation. 

Police said Hamlin, a 40-year-old, had a last known address of 34 Atlanta Court in Groton, Conn. An autopsy was performed on Jan. 29, 2006, and the death was certified as a homicide. 

Police said Hamlin was last seen alive in the area of the New London Transportation Center on Jan. 27, 2006, at approximately 10:30 p.m.

State Police say its criminal investigation has been open and active since 2006.
