Scam Alert: No, You Didn't Really Win Publisher's Clearing House

Waterford Police Department say at least one resident has been targeted by a variation of one of the oldest scams going.

Waterford Police Department received a call from an elderly Waterford resident yesterday who said she'd had a call from "Publisher's Clearing House." The caller told her she'd won $75,000 and a BMW. Here's the catch—she needed to send him $10,000 first.

It sounds a lot like the classic "Nigerian Prince" scam, only this call came from someone who identified himself as "JM Kingston," whose number on caller ID popped up as (876) 370-5151.

He wasn't too happy to get a call back from the Waterford Police Department but at least he didn't pull any punches. According to the police, the person who answered the phone said "I want to take their money."

"Then he called us bad names," Waterford PD posted on Facebook.

"This is a spoofed number from Jamaica, please ignore these calls as it is a scam," police warn.
