Update: Name Released From Sunday Accident

New London Resident "Doing Better"

The man seriously injured in a car crash at 720 Vauxhall Street early Sunday morning has been identified by police as 20-year-old Corey Tonucci, of 161 Ocean Ave in New London.

Tonucci was driving his car south on Vauxhall Street alone at approximately 2 a.m. Sunday morning when he drove off of the road, hit several trees before coming to a stop shortly off the roadway, according to Waterford Police.

A Life Star helicopter transported Tonucci to Hartford Hospital with serious injuries. He remains alive and is “doing better,” according to Police Lt. Brett Mahoney.

Tonucci’s name was originally withheld by police as they notified his family.

Waterford Police continue to investigate the accident and are asking anyone with information about the crash to call the them at (860) 442-9451, referencing case #2011-01339.
