Man Convicted of Using Counterfeit $100s At Waterford's Target

Shaun Whitehead, 26, faces up to 20 years in jail, according to the United States Department of Justice.

A New York man was found guilty this week of using counterfeit $100 bills at the Target in Waterford, along with four other stores, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

This week, a federal jury found Shaun Whithead, 26, of Brooklyn, NY, guilty of using counterfeit U.S. currency to purchase items at the Target in Waterford, along with stores in Windsor, Lisbon, South Windsor and Naugatuck, according to a press release from the U.S. Department of Justice. The jury deliberated for just one hour after a three-day trial, according to the release.

Whitehead was convicted of five counts of passing counterfeit obligations, according to the release. He faces a maximum term of imprisonment of 20 years and a fine of up to $250,000 on each count, according to the release.  

A sentencing date has not been scheduled. The Waterford Police Department, along with several other federal, state and local law enforcement organizations, assisted in the investigation.
