Man Arrested For Accident That Caused Premature Birth

Taxi Driver Arrested; And The Week In Arrests

A Norwich taxi driver was arrested Wednesday for where he is allegedly responsible for injuring one man and forcing a woman into an premature birth.

On May 13 at 9:29 a.m., 38-year-old William Miller of Norwich rear-ended a van at the intersection of Scotch Cap Road and Route 32, according to a report by Waterford Police Officer Andrew Farrior. Miller, a taxi driver for Norwich Taxi, LLC., had a woman seven months pregnant as a passenger in the car at the time, according to the report.

The driver of the van, Miller and the female passenger were all transported to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital with injuries, according to the report. The woman was forced into an emergency delivery, giving birth to a three-pound baby, devoid of consequences of a premature birth, according to the report.

When originally questioned by police, Miller said he feel asleep and was not under the influence of drugs, according to the report. But Waterford Police were allowed to test the blood taken from Miller at the hospital following the accident, and found he was under the influence of opiates and cocaine, according to the report.

Miller, of 5 James St, Norwich, was charged at 8:20 p.m. Wednesday with second-degree assault with a motor vehicle: under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol, first-degree reckless endangerment, driving while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, driving a motor vehicle in violation of license classification and failure to maintain a safe distance. He will appear in court on January 13.

Dec. 5

Johnathan Allen, 27, of 5 West Strand Rd, was charged at 9:31 a.m. with two counts of second-degree failure to appear.

Dec. 6

James Keramidas, 34, of 127 Black Point Rd, Niantic, was charged at 2:20 a.m. with driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, failure to drive in the proper lane, interfering with a police officer and threatening.

Denny Katzenberger, 33, of 94 Pennsylvania Ave, Niantic, was charged at 7:22 p.m. with driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and failure to drive right.

Dec. 7

One man was arrested on Dec. 5 for sixth-degree larceny: shoplifting.

One woman was arrested on Dec. 7 for breach of peace and sixth-degree larceny. One man was arrested on Dec. 7 for breach of peace.

One person was arrested on Dec. 8 for driving a motor vehicle when registration or license is refused/susped/revoked. One person was arrested on Dec. 8 for sixth-degree larceny: shoplifting.
