Man Transferred To Hartford Hospital Following Late Night Crash

Police have identified Christopher Lee of Colchester as the man who was in a serious accident Wednesday night at 1068 Hartford Road.

Lee was taken to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital Wednesday night, and has since been transferred to Hartford Hospital, according to Waterford Police Lt. Jeff Nixon.

"He's lucky, he's really lucky (to be alive)," Nixon said.

Lee hit a tractor-trailer truck just before 11:36 p.m. Wednesday, according to a police press release. Lee did not brake before hitting the truck, and hit it so hard his car broke the truck's rear axle, Nixon said.

Nixon said police are looking into why Lee did not brake before hitting the truck, he said.

Lee graduated from Bacon Academy in 2000 and works at BJ's Wholesale Club in Waterford, according to his Facebook page. Lee was driving an Audi, Nixon said.

A motorist was seriously injured Wednesday night after crashing into a tractor-trailer near 1068 Hartford Road, according to press release prepared by Wateford Police Lt. Jeff Nixon.

Just before 11:36 p.m., the driver was driving south on Route 85 when he or she struck the side and rear axle of a tractor-trailer, which was maneuvering into a commercial business lot, according to the release. The driver was transported to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital, while the driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured, according to the release.

The name of the driver has not been released, pending family notification, according to police.

Hartford Road was closed for several hours as police investigated the accident, but has since reopened, according to police.

The crash is under investigation. Anyone with information about the accident should call Waterford Police at (860) 442-9451, and refer to case 2012-00039.
