Arrests Keep Coming For Alleged Waterford Burglar

William Stanley III has been arrested again by Waterford Police for burglary.

On Monday, William Stanley III was arrested again by the Waterford Police Department on three different charges, after he was originally arrested in March for allegedly burglarizing a Waterford business twice.

On March 4, Stanley, 28, of 316 Avalon Lake Road, Danbury, was charged with reckless driving, two counts of first-degree larceny, two counts of third-degree burglary and engaging police in pursuit after he allegedly burglarized a Quaker Hill auto shop twice in four days, according to court records. He was arrested again on Monday for third-degree burglary, third-degree criminal mischief and fifth-degree larceny after police connected him to other unsolved burglaries in the area.

Waterford Police caught Stanley in the midst of an alleged burglary on March 4th at Dean’s Auto Recycling, a Quaker Hill mechanic shop, according to court records. Stanley tried to escape police as he drove off when they tried to talk with him, but was eventually captured on Boston Post Road, according to court records.

Stanley was later connected to other unsolved burglaries in the area of scrap metal from commercial properties, according to court records. That led to his arrest on Monday, according to police.

The Original Capture

On March 4, at 3:08 a.m., a Waterford police officer saw a red Ford pick-up truck parked outside of Dean’s Auto Recycling, a mechanic shop located at 42 Bloomingdale Road in Quaker Hill, according to an arrest report written by Waterford Police Officer Patrick Flanagan. Dean’s Auto Recycling had been burglarized four nights earlier, and the pick-up truck – which was registered to Stanley - had been connected to other unsolved burglaries in the area, according to Flanagan’s report.

The police officer went over to talk to Stanley, who was sitting inside the pick-up truck, but he took off south on Bloomingdale Road, according to the report. Stanley fled from police in his truck through New London and back into Waterford again, at speeds above 60 mph, according to the report. He was finally captured by police at 40 Boston Post Road in Waterford, according to the report.

Police searched Dean’s Auto Shop, where someone had used a pry bar to break into the back door and had taken 18 radiators outside of the building. Three radiators were found in Stanley’s truck, and a pry bar, along with a ski mask, a lock cutter and other items, according to the report.

On the morning of March 1, a worker at Dean’s Auto Shop found the shop burglarized, as 20 to 30 radiators, six catalytic converters and 30 to 40 aluminum skid plates were missing, according to the report. Tread marks made by a truck involved in that burglary matched the tread marks of Stanley’s truck, according to the report.

There were other unsolved burglaries of scrap metal from commercial properties in Waterford, Montville, Groton and other towns that the truck was connected to, according to the reports. That led to another arrest by Waterford Police on Monday for with third-degree burglary, third-degree criminal mischief and fifth-degree larceny, according to police.

As of now, Stanley faces three counts of third-degree burglary, two counts of first-degree larceny, reckless driving, engaging police in a pursuit, fifth-degree larceny and third-degree criminal mischief, according to court records. He has not been released from custody, and his next court appearance is April 30, according to court records.
