Waterford Community Band's Summer Program Begins
Summer is finally here! June 25th marked the first day for the Waterford Community Band’s summer program. They performed on that sunny day at Waterford Beach for the public.
It also started off the first full season with the band’s new conductor, Kevin Kinsall. Mr. Kinsall is the band conductor at Griswold High School, and he has rehearsed with the band for the last few months. “Working with fantastic people is the best part of conducting the band,” he explained. He chose the pieces that the band will be performing over the summer, but it was difficult to say which his favorite piece was. “’The Slavonic Dance’ and ‘To Dance in the Secret Garden’ are nice. ‘Amazing Grace’ is one of my favorites too. All of the above,” he admitted.
Antonín Dvořák composed “Slavonic Dance,” an upbeat piece that utilizes complex musical rhythms. “To Dance in the Secret Garden” was composed by Robert W. Smith, and it is a relaxing tune that emphasizes flute and percussion.

A recent high school graduate of Waterford High School, Nathaniel Ross, is an avid performer on piano and vocals. He was interested in attending a Waterford Community Band concert for a while, and he finally had the opportunity to listen at the band’s concert at Waterford Beach. “I thought it was really cool,” he said. “The pieces were well-selected. It was great to see how many people were involved.”

The next concerts will be on June 30, 7:00 PM, at Ocean Beach, and the following concert will be on July 15, 7:30 PM, at the Mystic River Park. Concerts are always free for the public, and everyone is welcome to come listen to uplifting music!
