Track is an Amazing Sport
Through the years of my sons playing sports, we have experienced unhealthy competitiveness & politics. Baseball, basketball, wrestling, football, soccer & track; these boys have played it all! A consistent problem has been the politics required to help your kids in sports. I've also observed unsportsmanlike conduct through the years from parents, coaches & athletes.
In my opinion, when competing in track, you're a single athlete. Unless you're on a relay team, it's individual competition. You wouldn't expect to witness what I have. An amazing observation I’ve made is that there is more comradery in track than any other sport my boys have played. Teammates cheer each other on, parents cheer for each others’ kids, and male & female athletes are cheering for each others teams. Yesterday, I watched Nico Ramos from New London High School Track, offer Anthony Jordan from Waterford, some high jump tips. I also watched New London's Orrin Parke & Waterford's Julio Gil-Martinez, fist bump after they competitively sprinted against each other. This not only happens between New London & Waterford track teams, it's throughout the sport. I'm proud of the sportsmanship displayed from these young men and women. They should be commended for that.
