Stolen Motorcycles/Shed burglaries

The Waterford Police Department has made several arrests over the past two midnight shifts for the attempted thefts of motorcycles and ATVs from sheds in the Devonshire Drive/Giovanni Drive/Fog Plain/Robin Street area. A group of persons is targeting dirt bike style motorcycles and ATVs to steal. As a result, we are asking residents to be especially watchful, listen to their dogs, keep exterior lights on, and especially lock your sheds and trailers.

On Monday, 08/19/2013 at around 1:30 AM, residents on Devonshire Drive heard people in their backyards, and called the police. Upon officer arrival, it was learned that males had fled into the woods, and officers went in after them. As they were searching, a motorcycle in the woods started up, and came at the officers. The passenger on the motorcycle kicked one of the officers in the chest, injuring her and causing the bike to crash. After a brief foot chase a 17 year old juvenile and Yojang Torres, Date of birth 01/19/1994 of 168 Laurel Drive, New London was arrested. Torres was charged with Criminal Trespass Second Degree, Assault 3rd Degree, and Assault on a Safety or Emergency Personnel. He was arraigned at GA 10 yesterday.

On Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at about 2:15 AM, persons on Robin Street heard noises in their back yard, and found males in their shed. After confronting them, and attempting to detain them, a woman was struck by one of the males, and they fled. An off duty Waterford Police Officer, hearing the commotion, came to their aid and detained one of the males.

A Waterford Police Officer saw a car fleeing the area on Fog Plain Road, and stopped it in the area of the New London High School. A male known only by the street name “Yo Yo”, who was the driver, fled. The other three males in the car were detained and arrested.

Arrested were Manuel Ortiz, Date of birth 09/22/1994, of 187 Huntington Street, New London, Ct., Emanuel Rivera, Date of birth 12/23/1993, of 130 Cedar Grove New London, Ct., Steven Colon, Date of birth 12/30/1993, of 197 Montauk Avenue, New London, Ct., and a 17 year old juvenile. All were charged with Conspiracy to Commit Crime, Criminal Trespass Second Degree, Burglary Third Degree, and Criminal Mischief Second Degree. Colon was additionally charged with Assault Third Degree.

During the 08/19 incident, the red motorcycle shown in the photos was seized by the Waterford Police. It is believed to be stolen, if you know who this motorcycle belongs to, and ownership can be proven it will be returned to them.
