Waterford Police Mourn The Loss Of One Of Their Own

Detective Lieutenant Thomas Viens Jr. was the first plainclothes detective in Waterford Police Department.

The Waterford Police Department regrets to announce the death of retired Detective Lieutenant Thomas Viens Jr. 

Detective Lieutenant Viens served thirteen years with the Waterford Police Department, and had a twenty year career with the New London County States Attorneys Office as an Inspector. He was also an FBI National Academy graduate. 

Detective Lieutenant Viens was hired by the Waterford Police Department in 1964, and was eventually promoted to the rank of Detective, the first plainclothes Detective in WPD history. He was later promoted to Detective Sergeant, and eventually promoted to Detective Lieutenant.

Det. Lieut. Viens was an active participant in the New London County Detectives Association. He is survived by his son Thomas Viens the third, a Patrol Officer in the Waterford Police Department, and his son AJ Viens, an Officer with the Boise City Police Department in Idaho. His sons and loving wife Ann was with him as he passed. 

Funeral arrangements have not been determined at this time.
