Photos: Capt. Arnold Holm Buried At Arlington National Cemetery

After 39 Years, Vietnam Soldier Finds Final Resting Place

Waterford native Army Capt. Arnold Holm, Jr. was buried at Arlington National Cemetery Wednesday,

On June 11, 1972, Holm was flying an OH-6A observation helicopter with two passengers onboard in the highlands of South Vietnam when his aircraft was shot down, killing all three men. For years, the bodies of the men were never found.

But thanks to the dedication of his family, best friend and students and staff at Waterford High School, all three bodies were found and “group identified” earlier this year. The remains of the three men, Holm, Spc. Robin R. Yeakley and Pfc. Wayne Bibbs were all buried today in a single casket at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.

Holm was 28 when he died,

Robin, thank you so much for your beautiful and touching photos. Arnold Holm was a true hero who we should never forget! I am so thankful that the family will now have closure. I am especially proud of our town, our Waterford High School Students, Brett Perry, Don Macrino, Paul Eccard, Bill Cavalieri, and others who worked so dillgently to bring Arnie Holm home. Special thanks also go to then Congressman Rob Simmons and Congressman Joe Courtney for all of their help. We should remember and be thankful for all of our Veterans, not only tomorrow on Veteran's Day, but every day of the year!

I want to thank the Waterford Patch for the wonderful coverage of my brother, "Arnie" "Dusty" Holm's services. My hearfelt thanks to all who have supported the cause for his return home. I was fortunate to meet many of the men who served with him. This will live in my heart the rest of my life. Thank you
