Obituaries: Bill Prentice Sr., Edward Wiseman, Assunta Orkney

Waterford mourns the loss of three longtime residents who passed away recently.

William H. "Bill" Prentice Sr., 68, of Waterford, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 10. Prentice, who had a lifelong passion for trucks, trains, and big machines, worked for the Town of Waterford for 39 years as an operator of heavy equipment in Waterford's landfill. He retired in 2002. He is survived by seven children, 18 grandchildren, and his "lady," Beverly Swanson.  

Edward Harry Wiseman, 78, passed away, Friday, Sept. 13, 2013. Born in the U.K., he worked in the research department at Pfizer in Groton 1961 to 1998, first as a chemist, then as a biochemist, then in pharmacology. He led a team of researchers who developed Feldene, which became Pfizer's first billion dollar product. He loved soccer and singing. He sang in a barbershop quartet for 10 years and in many Gilbert and Sullivan operettas with the East Lyme Arts Council. 

Assunta M. Orkney, whose life spanned more than a century, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013, at the age of 106.
