"We wanted to find a unique way to draw interest to the submarine ball this year," said Electronics Technician 1st Class (SS) Barry Williamson in a Navy press release. "In borrowing from the popular television singing shows, and applying it to the New London area, we'll not only find the best singer for the job, but also peak interest in a long standing and still wonderful event."

According to the event details, the top 15 submissions will perform live, and one will be chosen to perform at the Foxwoods' party on April 14.
