Panera Gives Bread To Help Cancer Patients

Panera in Waterford helped raise nearly $16,000 for the Connecticut Sports Foundation of Old Saybrook, which helps pay living expenses for families affected by cancer.

Panera Bread in Waterford was among 14 Panera bakery-cafes in Connecticut that donated a total of $15,972.16 in the first half of 2013 to its Operation Dough-Nation® partner, the Connecticut Sports Foundation (CSF), based in Old Saybrook.

The check included all Operation Dough-Nation customer collections in the cafes, proceeds from the bakery-cafes’ Mother’s Day cookie promotion and a portion match from Panera Bread/Howley Bread Group.

Taking this first half donation into account, Panera Bread/Howley Bread Group has now donated a total of $238,801 to CSF and its effort to assist cancer patients and their families with basic living expenses since the partnership was formed in 2009.

The check was presented near Dodd Stadium, home of the Connecticut Tigers minor league baseball team in Norwich which will be the host again for the 3rd Annual Panera Bread Spook-a-thon on Saturday, October 26th from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

The family-fun pre-Halloween party encourages fundraising teams to dress up in costume and walk in masquerade or dance to the music of live bands all to benefit the Connecticut Sports Foundation. In addition to the Haunted Clubhouse and batty cages, attendees will enjoy hay rides, a bouncy house, cookie decorating and trick-or-treating, as well as a pie eating and costume contests for prizes.

Bagels and pastries will be provided by Panera Bread and hot dogs and hamburgers will be available at lunchtime for a nominal charge.  For those interested in starting or joining a fundraising team or judging the contests, please visit the website at www.spookathonct.org.
