The Rewards of Volunteering!

Towns run on volunteers to a large extent. The Town of Waterford has many Boards and Commissions who are always looking for new volunteer members.

For those of you who get frustrated with some of the decisions made by “the Town”, or for those who don’t understand how a lot of these decisions are made; I want to remind everybody that YOU are “the Town”.

Towns run on volunteers to a large extent. The Town of Waterford has many Boards and Commissions who are always looking for new volunteer members. Some meet once a month, some meet twice a month and others might meet as needed. Volunteering for a Town Board or Commission is a great way to get involved, learn more about the Town and a subject that interests you. It is a very rewarding experience you are having a positive influence on the direction the Town is heading.

Never feel like you don’t know enough to contribute. New members are often sent to training programs somewhere in the State, and practical on-the-job training is the quickest way to learn. If you are interested, I suggest you look at the Town meeting schedule posted here on the Patch or on the Town’s Website. Pick a topic that interests you then go to one of the meetings to see what actually happens there. Then contact the First Selectman (sorry Dan, hope this doesn’t flood your office with calls!) and let him know you are interested.

Volunteers need to be appointed by the First Selectman, but he needs to know you are interested in order for you to be considered.
