American Experience Lecture Series

"Evaluating Children's Literature about American Indians"

Gabriella Kay is a children's Librarian at the Mashantucket Pequot Museum and Research Center.  She majored in history at Swathmore College and taught for several years in a private school.  Realizing the importance of professional training, she completed a Master's degree in Library and Information Studies at URI.  In 1996, she was selected to create the Children's Library at the Pequot Museum, which opened in 1998.  Gabriella and others developed a series of workshops designed to provide teachers and librarians with the tools they need to make informed decisions when evaluating books about American Indians.  She has presented workshops at the Museum and to librarians and educators at conferences and colleges across New England.
