Well, Irene has begun its attack on Waterford, dropping heavy rains and heavy gusts of wind, especially along the coast line.
Connecticut Light & Power is reporting 1,700 Waterford homes are out of power, or 17 percent of all town homes. Also, several town roads are closed, including Douglas Lane and Braman Road, from downed trees.
The latest weather report has winds between 45 and 55 mph, with gusts reaching 75 mph. The rain and wind should continue until 9 tonight, and then clear up for tomorrow, according to the National Weather Service.
Emergency Officials are encouraging families to stay inside for the duration of the storm. Flooding is expected.
