The Cheapest Gas In Waterford

Five Things To Know For Tuesday, April 12, 2011

1.    There is a 50 percent chance of rain today, and either way, it will be gloomy all day, according to the National Weather Service. Tonight it should definitely rain, and then continue into Wednesday morning, according to the service. At least the high is 59.

    2.    Monday afternoon, Patch drove around to all the town’s gas stations to find the cheapest price (a process that ironically used quite a bit of gas). Anyway, many were locked at the cheapest price of $3.87. However, every one required you to pay in cash, or have a Stop & Shop card, except one: Cumberland Farms in Quaker Hill. There it was $3.87, no matter how you paid for it, or where you bought your groceries. Considering Cumberland Farms also won best coffee in Waterford last year, I think it is fair to call the place the best gas station in town.

    3.  A state committee approved an $8 million sale of Seaside Regional Center to Farmington developer Mark Steiner, according to First Selectman Dan Steward.

It is now up to Attorney General George Jepsen to grant final approval. Steiner will turn the former tuberculosis sanitarium into high-end condominiums for seniors, according to Steward. Patch will look into details of this potential sale, and have a full story soon.

    4.  The spring book fair continues today at Quaker Hill Elementary School (it runs all week). The book fair is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
