The Board of Education’s Top 10 Highest Paid Employees

Five Things To Know For Monday, April 4, 2011

1. Today it is expected to rain, although it will be a light rain, according to the National Weather Service. A high of 46, with a low of 38 tonight, according to the service.

2. Well, last week’s list nearly broke the commenting meter. In the spirit of equality, here is the top 10 salary list for board of education employees (the list reflects the last full fiscal year, 2009-10). Just a few notes: New Superintendent Jerome Belair was hired at the exact same rate as former Superintendent Randall Collins, who is on this list. Most of the employees on the list will not have a raise next year, as the superintendent, assistant superintendent and all school administrators agreed to a wage freeze.
    1. Randall Collins, superintendent, $198,422
    2. Craig Powers, assistant superintendent, $141,900
    3. Donald Macrino, Waterford High School principal, $138,899
    4. Michael Lovetere, Clark Lane Middle School principal, $133,899
    5. Patricia Fedor, Great Neck Elementary School principal, $122,635
    6. Sue Rosenfield, Director of Special Services, $121,722
    7. Nancy Macione, Oswegatchie Elementary School principal, $121,635
    8. Glenda Dexter, Quaker Hill Elementary School principal, $121,635
    9. Rebecca Amanti, Waterford High School assistant principal, $119,957
    10. Michael Deray, business manager, $116,930

3. The Representative Town Meeting’s legislation and administration subcommittee meets at 6:30 p.m. This group is charged with creating the exact responsibilities of the new fire director position. Perhaps nothing interesting will happen tonight, but the important thing to watch will be if the town just gives the job to current Fire Administrator Bruce Miller or will solicit applications.

4. For those of you expecting a Whiz Kid today, it is delayed until tomorrow. The interview is today and I will write it up tonight. I’d let you know who it is, but I’ll keep the surprise.

5. On this date in 1968, Martin Luther King Jr. is assassinated. And in a feat in music that has never been repeated, on this date in 1964, The Beatles occupied the first five spots on the Billboard Hot 100 pop chart. But perhaps the biggest “on this date” I won’t be able to write until next year is that on this date in 2011, the University of Connecticut won its third NCAA men's basketball championship, this time thanks to the incredible Kemba Walker.
