First off, on the serious end, Switzerland has said it will phase out nuclear power. The country's five nuclear reactors will gradually shut down by the year 2035, according to the Associated Press.

Obviously, with Waterford having the sole nuclear power plant in the state, it’s interesting to see how governments, even foreign governments, view nuclear power. There are still many opponents of nuclear energy, even in this state, as evidence by the on Millstone earlier this year.

On the lighter side, George White, a lifelong fugitive who famously accepted a $1 million ransom from a federal agent in swim trunks in 1972, was finally arrested at age 68. A cat with two faces (your not going to believe the pictures) set the record for longest life, 12 years, for a cat with two faces. And of course, its tough not to mention the epic collapse by the Red Sox, highlighted by their biggest supporter, the great Bill Simmons. O, and surprise surprise, the Mets embarrassed themselves again.
