Many roads are still unplowed throughout Waterford, and even the ones that have been are far from being perfect, First Selectman Dan Steward said this morning.
Several plow trucks have broke from the heavy snow and the town is using front-end loaders to clear sections of road, he said. The town is also running low on sand and salt and other supplies, he said.
“We are down on equipment, we are down on people, we are down on supplies,” Steward said.
Steward said he hopes to hit many of the roads that have not been plowed today. He said is talking with the state, and will bring them in to help clear the roads if it comes to that.
“That’s not what we want to do,” he said.
Steward said the main roads were cleared first to allow Connecticut Light & Power to bring back the power. However, even those roads have a layer of ice on them, he said.
“They are passable, but there is a thick pack of ice on them,” Steward said. “People need to be very careful.”
