Pizza For a Cause; $100K In Donations For A New Pound

A look at the week that was.

This was in some ways an inspirational week of news, with the community coming together for people and animals that they care about. It also focused on the biggest debate in this country at the moment, gun control and how to curtail school violence.

One of the most inspirational stories of the week was the announcement that the group looking to The group, which is really just a handful of volunteers, has held fundraiser after fundraiser to make that happen, and plans to continue. The next goal for them is to get a site plan and a price for a new shelter, which they hope to reveal to the public relatively soon.

Another incredible story this week was about a benefit that was held at Pizza Cucina on Tuesday night for Kate Seidel and her family. Seidel’s husband, 34-year-old Kyle Seidel, was found murdered in Waterford late last month, leaving Kate Seidel a widow with three young children. Tuesday night, Pizza Cucina – where Seidel has worked for the past six years – held a benefit where all the profit from the sales that night were given to the Seidel family.

Many people waited an hour-and-a-half for a takeout order, and did so willingly, to help out a family going through an impossible time.

Then, there was the whole gun control issue. On Friday, we had a report that the sales of guns at local stores was soaring because people were worried that some weapons would soon be banned. And on Saturday, we interviewed Waterford’s sole state representative, democrat Betsy Ritter, and she said she will work to improve mental healthcare in the state this spring.

In other news, a Habitat for Humanity Re-store is coming to Waterford, Waterford teens got a taste of what it is like to be a police officer and this doggie is looking for a forever home. Oh, and then a $25 million sale was recently recorded in Waterford…
