Kindergarten Registration Today

Five Things To Know For Thursday, March 31, 2011

1. It's likely to be a terrible day today, as it is supposed to rain and possibly even snow throughout the day and into the night, according to the National Weather Service.

2. All parents who want to register their children for kindergarten should do it today from 9 to 11 a.m., at whatever elementary school their child is slated to attend. Parents need to bring proof of residency, either through a mortgage or a lease or some other proof, and the child’s birth certificate and immunization records. Children must be 5 by January 1, 2012, to qualify for kindergarten.

3. The new Coca-Cola building on Parkway South, which will be a warehouse for the soda company, is expected to be open by the end of April, First Selectman Dan Steward said. Meanwhile the building at 570 Vauxhall Street Extension is expected to open by the end of May. Both are roughly $10 million projects, Steward said.

4. The Waterford High School class of 2014 is selling gifts from Yankee Candle from April 1 to 10. The items will be delivered by Mother’s Day. If you would like to make an order, see any student from the class.

5. On this date in 1985, the WWF (now the WWE) debuts WrestleMania at Madison Square Garden. The main event was a tag-team match, where Hulk Hogan and Mr. T defeated Rowdy Roddy Piper and Paul Orndorff. Also on this date in 1968, with the Vietnam War weighing on his conscience, President Lyndon Johnson announces he will not run for re-election.
