  1. It should be a nice day today. Expect mostly clear skies and a high of 41, dropping down to 24 tonight, according to the National Weather Service.
  2. Registration for Waterford’s American Legion baseball team is tonight at the community center from 5 to 7 p.m.
  3. Stickers supporting a new Waterford-East Lyme animal shelter are available at the current animal control shelter (pictured). Stickers cost whatever you want to donate, and all donations are tax deductible. All proceeds will go
  4. Any student interested in joining the Waterford High rugby team should go to the field house after school today for conditioning. Also at Waterford High, intramural swim starts after school until the late buses arrive (4:30 p.m.), and will continue every Tuesday and Wednesday. It is open to all students, and will be mandatory for students who need to make up gym class.

Also, on this date in 1983, Ronald Reagan steals Han Solo’s thunder and declares the Soviet Union an “evil empire.” Of course, the phrase was later stolen by Red Sox President Larry Lucchino, who referred to the New York Yankees and their $200 million-plus payroll by the same term.
