Daily Five: Wind Turbine At Waterford High

Five Things To Know For Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2011

1. Showers are expected in the afternoon, with a high around 73, according to the National Weather Service. There is a chance of showers tonight, with a low of 61, according to the service.

2. After the planning and zoning commission said regulations need “clarification,” Town Planning Director Tom Wagner is rewriting regulations regarding gravel bank and excavation regulations.

Last year, Kobyluck Brothers, LLC, for a quarry at 24 Industrial Drive, although later after the conservation commission brought up a bevy of questions about the proposal. Owner Matt Kobyluck said he would resubmit plans, although so far nothing has been submitted.

3. Dominion, owner of Millstone Nuclear Power Station, gave out $350,000 in education grants, including $10,000 to Waterford High School for a wind turbine, according to Millstone spokesman Ken Holt. The turbine will be used as a educational tool, according to a Dominion press release.

-Waterford High School sporting events tonight: girls varsity soccer, varsity and junior varsity field hockey, boys junior varsity soccer, girls varsity swimming and diving meet.

-Tonight, the town Democrats caucus, presumably to prepare for the Nov. 8 election. Political signs have begun to spring up around town, and some candidates are now going door-to-door.
