Five things to know for Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012

1. Happy Thanksgiving! And it should be a nice day. Today should be sunny, with a high near 54, according to the National Weather Service. Tonight should be clear, with a low around 37, according to the service.

2. With it being Thanksgiving, nearly everything is closed, including all non-essential government offices including Waterford Town Hall and the Waterford Public Library. Also, there is no school for the rest of the week in Waterford.

3. This morning at 10, Waterford’s high school football team takes on East Lyme in Waterford. This is the last game of the season for both teams, with neither having a chance to make the playoffs.

Waterford has a record of 3-6 although they are 2-2 at home. East Lyme has a record of 2-7. The game is the two school’s annual rivalry game and the last game for all the seniors.

And on this date in 1986, Mike Tyson, 20, defeated Trevor Berbick to become the youngest Heavyweight champion in boxing history. Tyson defeated Berbick in the second round via TKO.
