3. Wednesday night, the Board of Finance approved the human resources department's budget with a total $12,000 higher than originally expected. The reason was the town is planning on paying the new human resources director $12,000 more than former Human Resources Director Barbara Aube, who retired in February.

Aube made around $108,000 acting as the human resources director for both the municipal government and the school district, First Selectman Dan Steward said. The new person could make as much as $120,000, he said.

However, Steward said the new hire would likely be a lawyer. A lawyer could save the town money, because the town would not have to spend money on legal services, but instead handle some problems internally, he said.
