Daily Five: Sewer System To Replace Failing Septic Tanks

Five Things To Know For Monday, Sept. 12, 2011

1. Today showers and thunderstorms are possible after noon, and it should be cloudy all day, with a high of 74, according to the National Weather Service. Tonight, the rain should stop, and the temperature will drop down to 61, according to the service.

2. Tonight, the planning and zoning commission discusses the utility commission’s request to put a pump station at 45 Benham Avenue. Currently, the area has no city sewer and “90 percent of the septic tanks in that area are failing,” First Selectman Dan Steward said.

Residents with existing septic tanks will have to tie into the new system and will pay for the new system through a benefit assessment. The town will put a lien on the properties until the assessment, which will cost several thousand dollars, is paid.
