Five Things To Know For Thursday, Nov. 24, 2011

1. Happy Thanksgiving! And what a nice day it will be. Today should be sunny, with a high of 49, according to the National Weather Service. Tonight should be clear, with a low of 36, according to the service.

2. This might come as a shock to many of you, but there is no school today at all Waterford Public Schools (or Friday either for that matter). Also, Town Hall and almost all other government offices are closed today.

3. for Black Friday. No longer do the stores open Friday at 4 a.m., but instead midnight, and some tonight around 10. Patch will be visiting the stores tonight to see the people huddled and waiting in line for some of the deals.

4. Today’s NFL football games: Green Bay (-6.5) at Detroit at 12:30 on FOX; Miami at Dallas (-7) at 4:15 and San Francisco at Baltimore (-3) at 8:20. All lines are from footballlocks.com. And if you want the lock of the week, take Baltimore in Baltimore giving three (that might go up to three-and-a-half), as San Francisco has to travel across the country on a short week to face the most physical team in the league.

5. On this date in 1859, Charles Darwin publishes “On the Origin of Species,” putting forth his idea of evolution. And on this date in 1963, Lee Harvey Oswald is shot dead by Jack Ruby, two days after Oswald shot President John F. Kennedey. The murder was one of the only times a murder was caught on live television.
