Five Things To Know For Monday, Oct. 31, 2011

1. Happy Halloween! Today should be sunny, with a high near 50, according to the National Weather Service. Tonight should be cloudy, with a high around 36, according to the service.

2. Two good Halloween events this afternoon for kids. First, there is at Waterford Public Library at 3. And then at 5 is at the Crystal Mall, featuring crafts and tons of candy.

3. I’m sending this along after Alan Wilensky, who is on the Board of Finance, sent it my way and I think it is interesting.

There was an article in the Hartford Courant this weekend focusing on the State Bond Commission recently approving a new $800,000 electronic scoreboard for the state House of Representatives. The scoreboard keeps track of the votes by the representatives. 

4. It appears Michael Lovetere, , is back working with Waterford kids. Lovetere is running a program through the Waterford Youth Services Bureau to build a float for the Niantic Light Parade, according to Waterford Youth Service Advisory Bureau minutes. The program will be held Thursday afternoons, from 2:30 to 5, and is for fifth graders and above, according to the minutes.

5. On this date in 1941, after 14 years of work, Mount Rushmore is completed. And on this date in 1864, Nevada is admitted as the 36th U.S. state.
