Five Things To Know For Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2011

1. Today should be sunny, with a high of 62, according to the National Weather Service. Tonight there is a chance of rain, with a low around 50, according to the service.

2. Some interesting election tidbits. First off, George Peteros lost his bid for the Representative Town Meeting’s First District, after spending 20 years on the Board of Finance. Peteros was the longest serving member on the Board of Finance.

Also Tuesday, the public elected two former mayors of New London to the RTM. Gerard Gaynor of the Second District and Elizabeth Sabilia of the Third District, both Democrats, both were elected to the RTM. Both Sabilia and Gaynor served as ceremonial mayors of New London.

3. Speaking of New London, Waterford High School Principal Don Macrino won a spot as a Democrat on the New London City Council Tuesday. It is Macrino’s first term on the council.

4. Today at 2 p.m., . Police are urging residents not to call 9-1-1 or panic in any way, as it is just a test.
