Daily Five: DUI Roving Patrol Locations

Five Things To Know For Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2011

1. It should rain today, and possibly thunderstorm, with a high around 57, according to the National Weather Service. Tonight there is a chance of showers before 10, and a low of 30, according to the service.

2. Tonight is one of the biggest bar nights of the year, and police are out in full force the entire week looking for drunk drivers, according to a state police press release. All week, starting today, there will be roving patrols by state police all over Connecticut searching for drivers under the influence, according to the release. Specifically in this area, there will be roving patrols on Friday and Saturday on Route 2, 2A, 12, 164, 214 and Interstates 95 and 395 in East Lyme, Griswold, Groton, Lisbon, Monvtille, New London, North Stonington, Norwich, Preston, Stonington and Waterford, according to the release.

3. Today is a half-day at all Waterford Public Schools. Students do not have class Thursday or Friday for Thanksgiving. Also today is the last day Town Hall and most other government offices are open this week, as they are closed Thursday and Friday.

5. On this date in 1876, William Magear “Boss” Tweed is caught in Spain and delivered to New York authorities. Tweed, a Democrat politician, was a large supporter of social programs and public works projects, which he would take large a cut of. It is estimated he stole at least $25 million, and possibly as high as $200 million (much more money in those days) from New York taxpayers.
