Five Things To Know For Thursday, May 17, 2012

1. After days of rain, today should be sunny, with a high near 71, according to the National Weather Service. Tonight should be clear, with a low around 46, according to the service.

2. Wednesday night, Republicans from the 38th District endorsed Tony Siragusa as their candidate to take on State Rep. Betsy Ritter, a Democrat, in the upcoming November elections. Ritter Ritter lives in Quaker Hill and Siragusa is from Montville, with the 38th District covering all of Waterford and part of Montville.

Ritter has been the state representative for the 38th District since 2004. Before that, she served as Waterford’s tax collector, town treasurer and registrar of voters.

3. This past Saturday was the 11th annual James Greenleaf 5k River Run for the Fund at Ocean Beach. The run had 210 participants, the largest showing yet, according to the James A. Greenleaf, Jr. Memorial Trust Fund Inc's Facebook page.

For some background, in the 9-11 terrorist attacks, as he was working in the north tower of the World Trade Center when tragedy struck. His friends and family set up a fund in his name, where they raise money for scholarships for graduating high school students.

4. of WATERFORDrama's "Les Miserables." There will be a performance tonight, Friday and Saturday, all at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students if purchased at the door.
