Daily Five: A Rapist Sentenced; Fire Department Fair Tonight

Five Things To Know For Friday, Aug. 5, 2011

1. Today should be partly sunny, with a high of 75, according to the National Weather Service. Tonight it should get cloudier, with a low of 63, according to the service.

2. Daniel Toce of Waterford was sentenced Thursday to 10 years in prison, suspended after 2 1/2 , followed by 10 years of probation for sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl. Toce knew the victim. He also must register as a sex offender.

3. Today, from 10 to 2, campers from the Sheep-to-Shawl Experience will put on a live event at Jordan Village. Pigs and sheep will be there. Additionally, all the students will be in 1700s-style costumes, and play parts, such as the blacksmith or the shepherd.

4. This is the first night of the Goshen Fire Department Fair at Goshen Fire Department, which is tomorrow as well. Games, fire truck rides, a white elephant raffle, fried dough, drinks and much more will be available. There is a ham and bean dinner Saturday.

5. On this date in 1305, the English capture William Wallace, leader of the Scottish resistance. He was brought to London, where he was executed. And on this date in 1962, Nelson Mandela is jailed. He would not be released until 1990.
