Cullers is the third Waterford High School graduate to be killed in the military since the War on Terror began. In 2003, Marine Cpl. Kemaphoom “Ahn” Chanawongse died in Iraq, and in 2010, Staff Sgt. Edwin Rivera died in Afghanistan.

3. Today is also the annual Veterans Day assembly at Great Neck School. Sixty veterans or active duty military personnel will be at the event, all either friends or family of Great Neck students, according to Principal Pat Fedor. Superintendent Jerome Belair, First Selectman Dan Steward and State Sen. Andrea Stillman will be the guest speakers at the event.

4. Brian Vachris has officially resigned from the Board of Finance, as he moved to Texas. Vachris, a Republican, will be replaced by another Republican.

5. On this date in 1871, Henry Morton Stanley, who had been searching for the missing missionary since 1869, finally finds Dr. David Livingston. When finding Livingston, Stanley, who was a reporter for the New York Herald at the time, said the now famous line, “Dr. Livingston, I presume?”
