Daily Five: Waterford Competing For Ledyard

1. Today scattered showers are expected, with thunderstorms possible in the afternoon and a high around 70, according to the National Weather Service. Tonight, showers are expected and thunderstorms are possible, with a low around 51, according to the service.

2. Waterford is one of several towns that is submitting a bid to Ledyard to take over the town's dispatch services.

Basically, Waterford's dispatchers would handle Ledyard's calls, if selected. Ledyard would pay Waterford for handling this service, a potential cost savings for both towns, First Selectman Dan Steward said. However there probably won't be an agreement any time soon, and Waterford is competing with other towns like Montville and Groton, according to Steward.

"We see some value in it," he said.

3. Tuesday night, the Board of Selectmen re-appointed Nancy Hicks, Richard Muckle and Chairman Gary Johnson to five-year terms on the Conservation Commission.
