Daily Five: Two New Stores At The Mall

Five Things To Know For Monday, April 23, 2012

1. Today rain is likely, with a high near 57, according to the National Weather Service. Tonight, there is a chance of showers, with a low around 41, according to the service.

2. In February, at the Crystal Mall in a few months. Well, two of the stores have now opened, and the other two will open soon.

Best Buy Mobile, which focuses on cell phones, and Yellowbird Cupcakes, which makes high-end cupcakes, have both opened, according to a public relations firm that the mall uses. Charley’s Grilled Subs, which specializes in cheese steaks, is expected to open by early May and Brow Art 23, an eyebrow threading boutique, should open sometime in June, according to the firm.

3. Vickie Fulkerson, a talented Day sports reporter, wrote a very nice blog about Waterford senior Adily Martucci recently. Martucci is a standout basketball player for Waterford High School Anyway, Fulkerson wrote a nice post about her, which you can read here.

4. Update: We originally reported that the Planning and Zoning Commission would continue its public hearing on Kobyluck Brothers LLC's at 28 Industrial Drive tonight. However, we have since been told that on Friday Kobyluck asked for the hearing to be postponed, and there will be no public hearing tonight.

5. On this date in 1985, Coca-Cola replaced its traditional formula with New Coke. Despite many people liking the taste of New Coke, the public revolted, saying they missed the classic taste of Coca-Cola. After just three months, the soda company began selling classic Coca-Cola again, which easily outsold New Coke. The reintroduction of the classic Coca-Cola created a huge boost in sales, resulting in the seemingly failed ploy turning into a win for the company.
