Daily Five: Shaking Up SEAT

Five Things To Know For Friday, Jan. 27, 2012

1. Today, showers are expected before 3 p.m., with a high of 52, according to the National Weather Service. And tonight should be partly cloudy, with a low of 28, according to the service.

2. The Southeastern Connecticut Council of Governments (SCCOG) is trying to to get three voting members on the , Waterford First Selectman and SCCOG Chairman Dan Steward said.

Currently, SCCOG has one member on the executive board, who isn’t allowed to vote and has not been allowed into some closed sessions, Steward said. Meanwhile, SCCOG pays for approximately 8 percent , Steward said.

Adding to the problem, SEAT does not have accurate numbers saying how many people ride on which bus runs, Steward said. Additionally, SEAT has not done a good job of communicating with SCCOG, Steward said.

The new plan will give SCCOG a voice on the board, and perhaps provide some help, Steward said. The main focus is to increase communication between SEAT and SCCOG, he said.

3. Wednesday night, Patch for a fundraiser for the Class of 2012 and the place was packed. Customers paid $5 for a meal, all of which went to the class of 2012. Moe’s gave away all the food for free, according to franchisee Matt Rusconi.

And just some quick editorial comment, the food was delicious. If you want to try something different for lunch, you got to go to Moe’s.

4. Three new movies open today at in Waterford. The Grey, an action featuring Liam Neeson killing wolves with his bare hands, plays at 4:10, 7 and 9:50. Man on a Ledge, which is unsurprisingly about a man on a ledge, plays at 4:25, 7:15 and 10:05. And One for the Money, starring Katherine Heigl, plays at 4:35, 7:25 and 9:35.

5. On this date 1993, Andre the Giant dies at the age of 46. Perhaps it was related to his poor diet, as Andre supposedly once drank 119 bottles of beer during a six-hour period.
