The Associated Press has reported that today's private service for Neil Armstrong – the late, great astronaut – will ironically be held be on the same day as a rare “blue moon” occurrence.
What is a “blue moon”? According to SkyandTelescope.com, a blue moon can be the second full moon in a month – we had a full moon on Aug. 1– or it can be a full moon signifying the change of seasons; Labor Day will bid farewell to summer this weekend.
Time Magazine says tonight’s occurance has not happened since March 2010 and will not happen again until July 2015.
According to EarthSky.org, a blue moon is blue in name only so if you want to share a blue-hued picture you're going to have to get crafty (think Instagram and follow Waterford Patch).
We’d love to see your pictures of tonight’s blue moon. How does the big lunar make you feel?
