A Good Day To Keep Your Kids Home From Middle School

Five Things To Know For Friday, April 1, 2011

    1.    Today should be bad again, with rain expected throughout the day, according to the National Weather Service. It should reach a high of 44, and then it should drop down to 33, according to the service.

    2.    Today there will be no school at any of the three elementary schools, as the day will be reserved for parent-teacher conferences.

    3.    However, for the kids who do have school today at Clark Lane Middle School, they are in for a treat. It is career day, and myself, that’s right, the Patch editor himself Paul Petrone, will be one of the three speakers. Sadly, this is not an April Fools' trick.

    4.    Wednesday night was the annual spelling bee, run by the Waterford Education Foundation. The winners this year were a team composed of three Oswegatchie Teachers: Virginia Campbell, Lynn Getty and Catherine McDonald.  

  5.    On this date in 2001, same-sex marriage becomes legal in the Netherlands, the first country to allow gays to marry. And on this date in 1976, Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak form Apple, which was the most successful company of the last decade (2000 to 2009).
