Total Life Expo is coming and you're invited!

It is called Total Life Expo and will include a wide variety of exhibits, inspirational speakers, along with interactive exhibits and a whole lot more. Sponsored by the Mohegan Tribe, and presented by the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut, this unique quality-of-life event will take place May 18th in the Uncas Ballroom at the Mohegan sun between 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Event sponsors include Aetna, and the region’s two major health care centers, Lawrence + Memorial Hospital and the W.W. Backus Hospital, along with Hall Communications, Walgreens, and Webster Bank.

Tribal Chairman Bruce “Two Dogs” Bozum said the expo is important to the Tribe because of its strong sense of community. “This expo is dedicated to the belief that having good health is important to being able to live well, and that is why the Mohegan Tribe has partnered with the Chamber to present this for the people who live in eastern Connecticut.

“Over the years, the tribe has demonstrated a strong commitment to health issues and the Total Life Expo is one way to give back to the community,” the tribal chairman said.

Participants will include physical and behavioral providers in traditional healthcare and those in the alternative areas of practice.

The Norwich Lions will be doing vision screenings, the Rotary Club of Norwich will collect material about children for the Amber Alert program, and the Mystic Fire Department will have its “smoke house,” an important fire safety tool.

The Day’s new web-based TV program Kidsploration will have a major presence, and, in one section dedicated entirely to children, the Mohegan Sun mascot Blaze will be shooting hoops with the future basketballers.

Other offerings will include:

  • A variety of health screenings, cooking demonstrations, inspirational speaking, interactive exhibits
  • Quality of life enterprises that include cleaning services, organizers, travel agencies, pool/spas
  • Financial planning/retirement counselors
  • Hair, nail, skincare and make-up experts
  • Food vendors, including natural, organic and farm-to-fork resources
  • Other profit/non-profit resources dedicated to ling well.

The Uncas Health District will be doing blood pressure screenings, the Alzheimer’s Association will have a display and a representative of the Connecticut Health Exchange will do a presentation about what to expect under the new health reform law.

Tony Sheridan, who heads the chamber, said the region’s largest business group is excited about the Expo, which is free to the public.

“The Chamber is honored to have been asked by the tribe to be its partner in this worthwhile endeavor,” he said. “We all know that living well includes all aspects of life—mind, body, spirit and that is why we will have exhibitors to present a truly unique range of valuable things for all ages.”
