July Service Person of the Month

Machinists Mate 1st Class Mark Russomano, a native of West Long Branch, N.J., from the Naval Submarine School at Naval Submarine Base New London, was recognized as July's Service Person of the Month.

A sailor from the Naval Submarine School at Naval Submarine Base New London was recognized as July’s Service Person of the Month by the Niantic Rotary Club and the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut, July 16.

Machinists Mate 1st Class Mark Russomano received the award during a Rotary Club luncheon at Flanders’s Fish Market in East Lyme.  The monthly award is sponsored by the Chamber and local service organizations, such as the Rotary Club, and recognizes service members in the southeastern Connecticut community for their work and dedication to the community.

Russomano, a native of West Long Branch, N.J., has served in the Navy since 2005 and has been an instructor and leading petty officer of the Machinery Division at the Sub School for more than two years.  He has also been an avid volunteer supporting East Lyme emergency services.

At the Sub School , Russomano serves as the course supervisor for four courses of instruction and he serves as the command’s assistant master training specialist coordinator.

Chief Machinist’s Mate Brian Eubanks, Russomano’s supervisor at the Sub School, praised Russomano’s efforts both at the school and in the community.

“Whenever there’s a question about QA (quality assurance) I come to him because he’s the expert,” said Eubanks. “In addition, Petty Officer Russomano spends hundreds of hours in his off-duty time being a volunteer fireman and volunteer Emergency Medical Technician.”

Said Russomano, “I want to thank the Rotary today for this thoughtful luncheon.  It’s an honor.”
