Yellow Bird Cupcakes, a gourmet cupcake shop located within the Crystal Mall, has closed just 10 months after opening because the owner is dealing with medical issues.
Chris Mastrianni, the owner of the cupcake shop, told Patch Monday that she is closing her shop because she is dealing with medical issues and her doctor advised her to stop working. Mastrianni said she will miss the customers and her employees, but said it was the right decision.
“It was a really hard decision,” Mastrianni said. “I’m going to miss it.”
Mastrianni said the people at Simon malls have been “very understanding.” She signed a three-year lease with Simon, which owns the Crystal Mall, and is currently negotiating a way out of the deal.
On Monday, Mastrianni was taking what was left at the store. She said her last day selling cupcakes was Sunday, and she will not be continuing Yellow Bird Cupcakes in any form because of her medical issue.
The cupcake shop featured 14 different cupcakes, from one with bacon to a key lime cupcake. It also featured a "cupcake of the month" each month, with Mastrianni saying the last one was a champagne cupcake in January for New Year’s.
