Waterford Police Issue Scam Alert

The following is a press release from the Waterford Police Department:

Waterford Police wants you to be aware of a longstanding scam that seems to be occurring in our area again. An elderly resident received a call from a lady stating she was an attorney for the elderly resident's granddaughter that got arrested for DWI. She then put a young girl on the phone and pretended to be the subject's granddaughter. She asked the elderly lady to send $900 via Western Union to a location. The elderly resident went to Western Union and was alerted by the associate there that this was a scam.

WPD has responded to this scam numerous times, it always involves a "relative" being jailed and needing bond money. Please make your elderly residents aware of this, and have them hang up the phone if they receive this type of call.
